The core of Hyperbaric Chamber Safety Precautions actually focuses on three major risks: fire hazards in oxygen-rich environments, physical pressure damage, and medical contraindications.
We take our “zero tolerance” list of prohibited items very seriously. You must never bring electronic devices (mobile phones, tablets, smartwatches), fire sources (lighters, matches), or petroleum-based personal care products (hair spray, makeup, lipstick) into the cabin. Many people overlook skincare products, but these things are very prone to static electricity or spontaneous combustion under high pressure. You must change into a 100% cotton hand sanitizer before entering the cabin to prevent sparks. In addition, we will conduct strict pre-entry screening and must rule out untreated pneumothorax or severe ear and nose congestion, otherwise it is very likely to cause middle ear barotrauma.

In the safety management of hyperbaric oxygen chambers, the most core link is the control of “oxygen-rich environment”. Under this high pressure in the cabin, the oxygen becomes a powerful “combustion aid”. This means that things that are usually safe in ordinary rooms may become extremely flammable instantly after entering the cabin.
Electronic devices: Mobile phones, tablets and smartwatches are strictly prohibited. The lithium batteries and internal circuits in these devices may malfunction or even spark under pressure, which is absolutely not allowed in the cabin.
Ignition sources: Lighters and matches are the most obvious hazards. In a high-pressure oxygen-rich environment, even the slightest spark can directly cause deflagration.
Petroleum-based products: This is the one that is most likely to be missed. Many hair sprays, cosmetics, lipsticks or moisturizers used in daily life actually contain oil or petroleum ingredients. In a hyperbaric oxygen environment, the flash point of these things decreases significantly and becomes a potential “fuel” directly.
To further cut off the source of the spark, the patient must change into 100% cotton clothing. Synthetic fibers like nylon, polyester, or silk are particularly prone to static electricity. In the case I handled, the mandatory wearing of medical cotton hand sanitizers was standard practice, ensuring that no static discharge would occur during treatment, which is currently recognized by the industry as the highest safety guarantee.
The second pillar of safety precautions is to deal with the physical effects of pressurization and decompression processes on the human body. When the pressure in the cabin increases, it squeezes all the gas-filled cavities in the human body.

The most common side effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy is “ear pain”, which is a crush injury to the middle ear. To prevent problems before they occur, our clinical team will teach each patient how to balance ear pressure through “pumping” to inflate the air. With these techniques mastered during the cabin “descent”, it is easy to balance the pressure inside and outside the eardrum and avoid ear discomfort.
We must assess your respiratory health before entering the cabin. If you have a bad cold, a stuffy nose, or a blocked ear canal right now, the pressure won’t be effectively balanced. In such cases, I usually recommend delaying treatment because the blocked passage holds back air, which can cause severe pain or even tissue damage under pressure.

Before you enter the cabin, we will conduct a very rigorous medical screening round. This is not a formality, but an attempt to identify medical contraindications that may lead to treatment risks.
The most serious contraindication is untreated pneumothorax (collapsed lung). Because oxygen chambers involve drastic pressure changes, if a pneumothorax patient enters the chamber, it is very likely to develop into a tension pneumothorax, which is life-threatening. Our screening is designed to ensure that your lungs are in a condition that can withstand a pressurized environment.
