What Not To Do Before Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Blog 1320

To ensure a successful and complication-free session, you must avoid the following before entering the hyperbaric chamber: never bring any flammable items, including electronic devices, lighters, or synthetic clothing that can create static electricity; do not apply petroleum-based products, such as Vaseline, thick lotions, or hair styling gels, as these pose a serious fire risk in a high-oxygen environment; avoid consuming carbonated beverages immediately prior to your session to prevent gastrointestinal discomfort; and ensure you have eaten a light, nutritious meal to stabilize your blood sugar levels and avoid hypoglycemia. Additionally, if you are currently using decongestants, consult your technician first, as these can impact your ear pressure equalization capabilities during the treatment.

Eliminate Fire Sources

The hyperbaric oxygen chamber operates in a high oxygen concentration environment. Although the oxygen itself is not flammable, it will be extremely combustion-supporting.

Absolutely Prohibited Items: It is strictly forbidden to bring lighters, matches or any electronic devices (mobile phones, smart watches, tablets, etc.) into the cabin. The tiny sparks generated by these devices or the heat of the internal battery are invisible bombs in this environment.

Clothing material: Don’t wear synthetic fiber clothing (such as polyester or nylon), they are very prone to static electricity. In order to be safe, we usually require patients to wear the 100 per cent cotton hospital gown provided by the hospital, which is the safest way to avoid risks.

Stay Away From Grease Products

Many daily care products contain petrolatum or mineral oil, which is no problem in ordinary environments, but under high concentrations of oxygen, they are ready-made “fuels”.

Skin care and beauty: Do not apply Vaseline, heavy body lotion, cosmetics or hair gel or hair oil before treatment. Even a little bit of grease, encounter high concentrations of oxygen have the risk of explosion.

Give a suggestion: when doing treatment, please keep your skin and hair clean and do not apply any skin care products. Most regular clinics will require you to wash these things thoroughly before entering the cabin, so it is better to clean them up before leaving from home.

Diet Learning: Comfort And Blood Sugar Balance

Your physical reaction during treatment depends to a large extent on your previous diet preparation.

Avoid carbonated drinks: Pressure changes in the cabin will expand the gas in the digestive tract. If you ‘ve just had a Coke or soda, the resulting bloating and exhaust can make the entire treatment process very uncomfortable.

Smooth blood sugar: I always recommend that patients eat a light, nutritionally balanced meal before treatment. Because hyperbaric oxygen may cause blood sugar fluctuations, if the treatment is carried out on an empty stomach, hypoglycemia may occur in the middle of the treatment, resulting in dizziness or collapse, which will seriously affect the treatment experience.

About Drugs And Decongestants: Ask The Technician First

Communicating with the Doctor Before the Consultation

In hyperbaric oxygen therapy, the most common problem is actually the ear pressure balance. With the rise and fall of the cabin pressure, how to adjust the pressure in the ear is the most headache.

Decongestants: Some people are accustomed to using over-the-counter decongestants to assist ventilation, but I must warn you that these drugs may have side effects or interfere with the normal treatment response.

Safety guidelines: Do not take medication without permission. Always consult your hyperbaric oxygen technician or attending physician before taking the drug. According to your physical indicators, we will judge whether these drugs are suitable for you, which is not only responsible, but also to protect your safety in the treatment process.

Remember, these rules are not to limit you, but to ensure that you can actually get the benefits in a safe and comfortable state.
